The Rocks Cry Out

It was the rocks that sealed the deal.  George and I had looked at a lot of properties in our search for our new home.  We were getting discouraged.  We had an offer in on a property that we loved.  It had a little pond, cleared land, and an old family cemetery – which was fascinating to me, by the way.  We had been waiting for a couple of weeks for even a response to our offer, but the owner just didn’t seem interested.

We had decided to resume our search and put together a list of properties in our desired area.  Our realtor had given us details and routed us around to the properties that we wanted to see.  It was a cold, wet February weekend, and after visiting a number of properties on Saturday we were even more dejected.  Some of the places we went were not even accessible when the rains.  What served as a driveway as little more than a mud bog, and even with four-wheel-drive, there was no way to get into the middle of most of the places we visited.

We headed back to our motel, and after recapping our day, we decided that we would head back home the next morning.  Looking back through our list, we saw that there was one property that we had not visited that we could loop around to on our way out of town.  We didn’t hold out much hope as the online pictures didn’t show us much.  Sunday dawned.  We packed up and headed over to the Blue Ridge Parkway to travel north to the property.  When we got to the “For Sale” sign, we were a little speechless.  The property was beautiful.  Even with all of the rain, we were easily able to get to it.  There was cleared area, and there were beautiful woods.  I have always loved the woods, but that is a story for another day.

We didn’t want to venture too far into the woods since there was ice on the branches of the trees, and we were worried about a dreaded widow-maker coming down.  Fortunately, close to the top of the little ridge on the property, I found them – the rocks.  I have always loved the beauty of big mountain rocks.  As I kid me and my siblings played on them when we were on vacation and our favorite mountain place, Fontana Village.

You might say that those rocks cried out to me, “Buy this place!”  George and I looked at each other.  We were both sold.  We called our realtor and quickly withdrew our offer on the other property and placed an offer on the one we almost rejected without even looking.  The seller quickly accepted our offer and by April, we owned the property, rocks and all!

God is so good!  He knew that this was the place we were to be…
